History

In the early years of the mushroom culture in the Netherlands, in the 50’s, casing was made by the growers themselves with marl and/or  river clay.  The first professional production of the present (peat based) casing dates from about 1960.  With peat and marl from the south of Holland, Legro Potgrond BV (Potting Soil) made casing for the mushroom culture.  Nooyen was one of largest buyers of the casing of Legro; a perfect mix that final resulted in the company Nooyen Dekaarde B.V. (Nooyen Casing). In the first years, the production was located in Asten, but moved in 1989 to a location on the river Maas in Wanssum.  In the beginning of 2000 Legro became sole shareholder and, also under influence by a fast growing export, changed the name to;  TOPTERRA HOLLAND B.V.  . At the same time also the take-over of another Dutch casing company was completed; per 1 July 2000, all activities of Brill Nederland BV went to TOPTERRA.  In September 2005, TOPTERRA has taken over, modernized and automated a production location in the North-German Worpswede to a full production location.
